Kentucky Derby Picture Blurs

The pathway to the Kentucky Derby has taken a scarcely any unexpected turns this weekend. What was once a relatively clear picture has at present been thrown into disarray with Toby's Corner's upset of Uncle Mo in the $1 million Wood Memorial on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The Santa Anita Derby over was not without its disappointments. Stirring things up forward the west coast was the abandonment of allegiance of Premier Pegasus from the Santa Anita Derby fit to a hairline fracture and his later removal from the Derby trail, and Jaycito, the to be expected second betting choice was also withdrawn granting he will probably make a comeback in the G2 Lexington Stakes.

Both of the cover on the ~ two finishers in the Wood were future into the race off 82 Beyer Speed Figures, and given that Uncle Mo qualified a length behind the top pair, it is reasonable to say that he apparently will receive his second straight sub-90 Beyer. His three-year-thoughtful debut in the Timely Winter main be forgivable since the remarkably lingering early pace surely impacted his faculty to achieve a high speed shape, but in the Wood Memorial, he seemed to be obliged no visible excuse. It will exist very tough to win the Derby most distant two sub-90 Beyers.

He did take some trouble loading in the starting gate precursory to the race, and trainer Todd Pletcher related that there was a quarter sized pit in his hoof that he had torn obvious from stepping on himself. Was that enough to justify such a poor showing? Jockey John Velasquez did tell that he was not relaxed for the period of the race as he normally is.

But some bloggers are already questioning whether his family is catching up to him and like his father Indian Charlie, he might not have ~ing ideally bred to go the 1- mile Derby distance. Well, well, time will tell.

If Uncle Mo has indeed gone evil, then that pretty much leaves us through The Factor who is running in the Arkansas Derby nearest week, and Dialed In, the winner of the Florida Derby, of the same kind with the frontrunners. And we better digress giving Soldat, who flopped in the Florida Derby, a aid look. After all, he did excursion a great race in the 1-1/8 mile Fountain of Youth through a solid speed figure. I at no time thought he could match Uncle Mo, no more than the Wood Memorial goes to show that the Derby is up in opposition to grabs.

Surely they are going to be giving him a full battery of tests to distinguish if there is anything amiss through him, and we will keep you informed of the latest updates in successi~ Uncle Mo.
