World of Warcraft (WoW) was released in 2004, but as of June 2011 the game has 11.1 million subscribers. It is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that allows players to live a virtual life in the mythical world of Azeroth. You can chat with your comrades, gang up on in-game monsters, buy items in the auction house, or make money through a profession. It has pretty much been among the top PC games since it was released and will likely continue to hold the spot for many years. Expansions and patches keep game content fresh and an army of in-game moderators make sure everyone stays in line.
