How to Open an EPS File Extension

EPS files are a common feature in pretty much any digital medium that requires graphics. They are therefore frequently encountered by those in any industry related to publishing. The EPS stands for encapsulated postscript and they are essentially types of vector graphics. Should you find yourself in possession of such a file and are trying to figure out what to do with it, the answer all depends upon whether you want to edit it or to simply view it. I will now outline just how you can go about doing either.

How to View an EPS File

While your options are much more limited if you want to actually edit your EPS file, if you solely want to view it, there is a wide range of programs that will do the trick including but not limited to:

Microsoft Word cannot technically open an EPS file but it will allow you to embed such a file into a Word document and in doing so, you will be able to view it. Simply open Microsoft Word and drag and drop the EPS file you want to view onto the document.

Adobe Acrobat can straight out open EPS files with no need to embed them in anything. Many other Adobe programs can do likewise including Adobe Illustrator.

If you have a Mac, your best bet is probably Apple Preview.

Finally, if you don't have access to any of these programs, there is an open source choice named Ghostview. A quick Google search should point you in it's direction and it can be downloaded free of charge.
