French claim Japan is hiding full scale of nuclear disaster as emergency teams desperately fire water cannon at reactors from long rangehttp://www. dailymail. co. uk/news/article-…

@ ATSI agree with you, damned if the Japanese do and damned if they do not. Such a shame you had to spoil your answer with an anti French message!

Quite possible. Japan is a very advanced country, technologically speaking, and its a bit of an embarressment for them. The Nuclear power station is question is quite old and newer ones are built very differently, which is why things have gone as wrong as they have. French and American experts are more worried about whats going on, dispite what the Japanese are saying. Even the Japanese people and Emperor are very concerned. The Japanese government is doing everything it should be, and can be, while trying to keep its people calm. If you think any other government would tell its people of a possibly catastrophic event, you'd be naive. The British Scientists by the way, are saying phrases like "the Japanese are doing what they should be", and talking about things in the present tense. Any attempt to ask what will happen is met with an answer about the present, not the future. So the British experts are avoiding the issue. And thats probably so as not to add to any panic. Right now the 4th reactor has blown, making a full set, there's too much activity to have anyone on site any longer. They are currently dumping water on the reactors via helicopter. This wont work. Its a last ditch effort for forest fires, and the reactors are much much hotter than that. Next step should be to set dozens of hose into the reactor buildings and pump tons of sea water into the reactors to try to cool them down. If that doesn't steady the problem enough to advance solving it, the last step is to dump thousands of tons of concrete on all 4 reactors and encase the radiation is dozens of metres of concrete. After that, there is nothing that can be done.

the facts speak for themselves - after a series of fires and explosions, the workers have been forced back and are resorting to desperate measures with helicopters and long range fire hoses. Radioactive fuel is on fire. The thing appears to be utterly out of control. It is turning into a second Chernobyl. At Chernobyl one un-contained reactor was blown to pieces, but in Japan there are six plants I believe in serious peril, but the reactors are contained - however the spent fuel on fire is not contained and is highly radioactive. I always thought it was worse than they said from the start.

FIrstly, it is far too easy for our French "friends" to be critical at such a long distance. What would they do - shrug their shoulders, and get back to Frog's Legs and Pernod? Oh no, I forgot, they are very proficient at evacuation aren't they, especially Asylum Seekers across the Channel. What exactly are the Japanese Government supposed to state - damned if they do, damned if they don't. The past 5 days has been a disaster of epic proportions, and surely Governments across the world should be asking "what can we do to help", rather than casting vitriol.

Well it wont surprise me as the last thing they need after this horrible devastation is mass panic in the streets, being French myself (thanks to Ats-Abraxas for his cheap insults towards me and my country of origin) I have always found that the press in France would get it right when making such announcement (if they have done of course)Unfortunately it does not look very good for the future of the survivors of this awful tragedy

Shorewood Hills

Not hiding but not disclosing. A judgement has to be made about these things. No-one wants mass panic. The authorities are evacuating those nearest to the nuclear plant.

Elk Grove

The French can't talk.. after trying to cover up radioactive material leaking into lagoons after their last nuclear tests...claiming it was 'insignificant' amounts. pfft.

Northboro

It probably is worse than is being let on but do you think the British government would be totally truthful in the same circumstances cos I don't

Daily Mail. Ignore it.

Oneida

It's just the Daily Mail being anti-French and taking things out of context.

Muleshoe

For heaven's sake! It's The Daily Mail!!!!!
